MENTOR PROGRAM

Overview

Tahltan Nation Development Corporation is excited to be working with the Tahltan Central Government, Newcrest Mining and other partners to launch our Tahltan Nation Heavy Equipment Program – Pilot Project - in Tahltan Territory.

A key cornerstone of this program is the involvement of existing senior Tahltan Heavy Equipment Operators (HEO Mentor).

What is a mentor?

A mentor is someone that will work alongside our HEO Instructor onsite at Red Chris and help the HEO program participants stay safe, and build new skills.

Mentors will work directly with participants to help them get comfortable on site, and generally be a safe and engaging presence. Mentors will not be responsible for directly instructing anyone on any activity but will provide feedback and respond to questions from participants, either when learning in the sandbox or around camp.

The mentor will be allocated to the HEO Training program for two (2) to five (5) days of their regular rotation, so that the HEO program participants will meet a number of mentors and learn from different work experiences and work styles.

What do I need to have to become a mentor?

We are looking for Tahltan Heavy Equipment Operators who have at least three (3) years of experience, a strong safety record, good technical equipment operation skills, and enjoy working with others to help them build their skills and knowledge.

In addition, we are looking for those who would like to continue to progress their skills and career, and are intrigued about the potential to be a site mentor, and to potentially grow into a lead hand, site trainer or program instructor.
